Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay born August 24 72, at Long Beach in CA. DuVernay received encouragement from Aunt Denise at the age of an infant. Her aunt was a nurse and did night shifts to ensure that she could dedicate her time to literature, theatre, and art. DuVernay was captivated by the film of 1961 West Side Story after her aunt showed the film to DuVernay. DuVernay recognized that art is an effective way to spread activism. In the same way, her mother was conscious of her social status and influenced the importance of speaking up through art. DuVernay had her summers spent in Lowndes County Alabama, where her father was born and raised. DuVernay's father recalled watching the historical Civil Rights march through the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the adjacent town Selma Alabama. DuVernay would use the summers she spent in Alabama as inspiration for her next film, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In the year 1990, DuVernay completed her studies at Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood California. After graduation she was enrolled at the University of California Los Angeles where she earned certificates in English as well as African American studies. DuVernay was a student at the college when she started to get interested in production for broadcast journalism. She was an intern with CBS News at the time of the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was assigned to the monitor and investigate the residence for a specific Jury member. The work she was assigned to did not leave her satisfied by journalism and she decided to shift her focus towards the publicity industry. DuVernay was hired right after graduating from college as a junior publicist at the studio that was small. She founded The DuVernay Agency, her PR firm, in 1999. Apart from PR, the agency also created a variety of social media and lifestyle networks, including Urban Beauty Collective, the Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective, Urban Eye and HelloBeautiful.
